Kupwara, May 23 (KNO): Kupwara district in northern belt of Kashmir Saturday witnessed a huge spike in number of positive cases with 35 people testing positive for novel Corona-virus taking the total toll of positive cases to 161. Officials said that 35 positive cases in a single day is so far the highest tally and this huge spike is only due to the returnees who recently arrived back from various parts of country. Talking to News Agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), officials said that 35 returnees have tested positive for novel Corona-virus in Kupwara who were already under administrative quarantine. Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Anshul Garg informed that, 35 travellers tested positive today, all under quarantine for 14 days. This is the same group arguing constantly with Administration to be released for home quarantine being asymptomatic. Once again, the need for mandatory testing for all returnees is underlined, in the interest of community at large. With this 62 of Kupwara returnees have tested positive over the last week and number of Active cases jumps to 95. As such, strict lockdown restrictions shall continue in the district and public is appealed to stay indoors to the extent possible and let us all pray for health and happiness of all mankind this Eid, he said. Pertinently, 163 people have so far tested positive for novel Corona-virus of which 68 people have so far recovered and 95 are active and no one has so far died in the entire district besides that over 3000 returnees were received after which they were sent for quarantine and then sampled for COVID-19—(KNO)
